There are so many other things on the menu, try something else and appreciate the fact that it one of the few soul food restaurants in the bay area. Sweet potato pie shouldn't be your barometer.
Yes you can..you don't have to make a reservation... Morning time is the best time to go
Hello there hope you doing well are you referring to the pies that they make there??

I thought the wait was normal but the food wasn't as crispy as if hoped. That could've been because it was takeout but definitely was hoping for a crispier waffle and Chicken
This place is a classic restaurant.... Lois has been around for years serving our community. As soon as you walk through the door you feel the history of Lois the Pie Queen flavor. My last visit I had the Sausage and cheese omelette with grits and it was on point.
Food was good. Didn't like the scrabble eggs they were not real eggs. Chops were fried tooo hard, paired for juice didn't get it. Gave a nice tip, I've eaten here before and enjoyed the food today was not one of them ☹😩
We had two pies from here for Thanksgiving and they were...OUTSTANDING. We had one Sweetpotato pie and one Pecan pie. The Pecan pie was full of nuts and not over the top sweet. The crust is a perfect homemade style that reminds me of home. I'm looking forward to eating more of menu items on future return visits to Oakland.
Have loved this place for years, good is great and reasonable, service can't be beat! Just keep those pies safe on the way home! Tip: Cash only but they will take Venmo!
Great service, very friendly staff. Haven't eaten here often but has a real comfy and chill feel. Great coffee. Parking is a little tricky, but during the week not too bad. Fried chicken is moist and bacon is very tasty. Very old school interior.
Love this place! For the service, the history, and the pies! Is the food mind blowing? No. Is it damn good? Yes. Are the pies mind blowing? Hells yeah they are! Love coming here for brunch on the wkend. No frills. Just a great crowd, good food and great pies!
Great service friendly people, food was fantastic. Especially the pie, we had banana cream and warmed pecan with whipped cream. Absolutely wonderful. The only thing is they had a great looking dinner menu than lunch. They should expand that. If you ever get the chance try it, you won't regret it, especially if they expand their menu.
Unbelievably good food and hospitality. This is comfort food at its best and the pies...wow the pies. They are known for the chicken and waffles and the pies and that is exactly what we got. The BEST!! We took home the coconut creme pie, the mud pie and the peach cobbler. Delicious!!!! Our server(who is the grandson of Lois) was super sweet to our 5 year old and could not have been more friendly and warm. Great experience. Will go again for sure.
As the name suggests, pies are the specialty here, and they are truly divinely yummy. My all-time favourite is the peach cobbler, followed by the lime-berry pie (not sure if I got the name right) and the raspberry pie.
Southern Hospitality in the Bay Area. Family owned and operated with a community support feel...and bomb diggity fried chicken! As my children and I walked towards the restaurant we could smell the aroma of fried chicken. The house was packed and we were greeted warmly by third generation family operator- Corey who was exceptionally friendly to us and others who were dining. We ordered the two piece chicken plate- the flavor and crispness of the skin was amazing. Mouth watering, tender and not overly greasy. Wish we had room to try the pies-next time. We dined around 1:30-2pm on a Saturday. I can imagine a line wrapped around the door during Sunday when they offer other delicious eats like smothered chicken. Make a trip- you won't be disappointed!
🥧 Is amazing!! The chicken and waffle was OK. Solid waffle. Chicken wasn't seasoned that well. The wait staff is friendly and kind. Will visit again for sure.
Pies, pies, pies!!Best to get them in the AM; usually gone by the PM.
Very tasty! Hash browns were crispy on the outside soft on the inside.
Good old soulfood. Loved the Pecan Waffles! Best ever!
This is a fun place to go for breakfast, but be warned that it's packed on Saturday morning. You should also make sure you carry cash as they only accept cash! My Shrimp & Grits was $15.95, tho it was absolutely worth every penny! It came with 2 biscuits and I took some home, so portions were good size. It was so cool looking at the walls of pics of all the famous people that have eaten there. The service was friendly tho our server was a little slow getting to us, but we thoroughly enjoyed it and each took home a slice of pie. I have been searching for Lemon Icebox pie for years and it was tasty. I am excited about returning to this restaurant with more friends.
Got the chicken and waffles for breakfast. Chicken was really nice as I expected. I preferred the waffles to be on the crispier side though. Hubby got the Reggie Jackson meal which had 2 pork chops, hashbrowns eggs and toast. Huge serving! He was pleased with the pork chops too. He said they were flavored well, just a little on the dry side. Would come back to try the shrimp and grits next time.
Food is always good here but I'm a real estate broker and I always look at aesthetics would like to come in and remodel the place and put in some new tables' chairs, ceiling redo..painting also the entire bar stool area front counter..
